Recent news from DeKalb County, Georgia, has caught a lot attention as the authorities declared they have been looking for a man who allegedly helped in the kidnapping and sexual assault of a boy inside an apartment in Brookhaven.
Authorities went on to say the man is a danger to the public, and needs to be caught before he causes anyone else any harm.
The police said that the boy, who is 12 years old, was walking through the apartment complex in Brookhaven when was grabbed and then dragged into an apartment. The incident took place on Jan. 29 at around 1 p.m.
Police say that once inside the apartment, two men, Kevin Walker and Kelvin Armstrong, held the boy against his will, and although the boy tried to escape, he was unable to. The men allegedly sexually assaulted the boy.
Brookhaven detectives later arrested Walker. He was charged with multiple crimes, including those of kidnapping, aggravated child molestation and aggravated sexual battery. He was also charged with reckless conduct because he is HIV-positive.
Police have so far been unable to arrest Armstrong, who is still on the run. Police fear Armstrong may attack again if he is not caught soon. Armstrong, 38, has an extensive criminal history. Police say members of the public should not try to approach Armstrong, but should instead call law enforcement if they see him.
Armstrong, who is on the run, is wanted on felony charges of aggravated child molestation and cruelty towards children. The police also said that there are various details coming to light that indicate where Armstrong might be headed. They are making every effort to put this suspect behind bars within days.
To make matters worse, the apartment where the incident happened is right across the street from a police station.
Police said neither suspect lives in the apartment complex.
The police stated that the man who rents the apartment was not at his home when all of this happened and that they don’t think he was involved in the crime any way.
“I think it’s really disturbing that it can happen, especially in public and especially to a 12-year-old,” said Meza, the mother of a young child who lives in the neighborhood.
Meza was even more disturbed when she was told what the suspects had allegedly done to the young boy.
Those who live in the neighborhood are horrified by the crime and expect the police to arrest the suspect before anyone else gets hurt. Some neighbors said they would not let their children outside until the suspect is caught.
“I hope they catch these people, you can’t even let your kids run around anymore like you used to, it’s a really scary world honestly,” said Melanie King, who lives in the area.
Residents expressed their disgust after hearing what police said the suspects did to the 12-year-old boy.
“That’s really bad, like how can they do that to a little boy, it’s just crazy,” said neighbor Amarini Acevedo.
Police declined to state whether the boy had contracted HIV during the attack.
